Swimsuits For Elaine (or anyone else for whom the term “concave” may apply…)

So my friend Elaine had a HILARIOUS post this morning on the troubles of finding a swimsuit for those of us who tend more toward the concave rather than the buxom….

Being one of those gals myself (seriously, after struggling to find the right size bra, even trying those “and a half” sizes, I found my perfect size…. in the training bra section…yup-per…not joking, I now have stocked up on THREE of those fabulous bras…), I am WELL acquainted with the joys and perils of swimsuit shopping for the b00bie-challenged.

(although my guess is that anyone who is not thin, toned with perfect proportions  struggles in this area…especially if they want to keep it covered!)

So this post is for you Elaine, and all the rest of the FCW’s!(Flat Chested Women).

Top Ten FCW Swim Pics:

10. Kenneth Cole Hi Neck Top and Skirted Bottom available at Boscovs.com

The reason this suit is number 10(as opposed to higher on my countdown) is that it is a zebra stripe…meh… I LOVE the style, just not the pattern…

9. Pop Art Splice Tankini and Short from Athleta

I love the look of this, and it is SUPER flattering for the smaller chested…  I am not sure I would feel totally comfortable with the v-neck, but the top does tie in the back and is adjustable…

These two tops have coordinating fabrics and are interchangeable with the shorts.

LOVE these shorts, they are cute, have a GREAT fit and have an attached panty.

I am not totally sold on the print on this one either, hence the #9…

8. Beach House Tops and Board Shorts Available at Boscovs.com

I like both of the tops(the bandeau has the detachable strap), but the shorts I am a little scared of, I can’t quite tell how the fit will be, and the description did not say if they had an attached panty, so you might have to buy the bottoms too, unless you are like me and already have plenty o’ random black bottoms to wear

7. Nike Bandeau Top with Either Shorts or Skirtitni(I am partial to skirtini’s, but I think the shorts are cute too!)(both of these options are available at kohls.com)

nike-top

This top has a removable strap for added modesty and practicality(as in you kids not pulling it down, thusly revealing to the world your concavity that you have been trying to at least cover, if not disguise).nike-skirtini

Skirtini

These are Nike Running Shorts with moisture-wicking and an attached panty, so I thought they would work great as a swim bottom with the bandeau!

I love bandeau’s for my body type, my shoulders, collarbone and arms being my BEST features(aside from my sparking personality and cute hair, of course), and bandeau’s feature this perfectly.  This style DOES NOT WORK FOR YOU IF YOU ARE CHEST-Y and want to stay modest… I am just sayin’…

6. Nike Rugby Top(available at kohls.com)

Also interchaneable with the above skirtini or shorts.  Love this top, I would get it if I didn’t have plenty of suits… It is great for FCW, plus it doesn’t have the scare factor of small children pulling it down!

6.  Bombay Border Halter Tankini from Athleta

I just LOVE LOVE this suit… Something about it just reaches out and says ‘buy me’.  The top may be a little too “v-neck” for me, so I would probably have to “modify” it… but I love the shorts, they also have an attached panty and are nicely fitted but don’t hug your thighs!  If I was going to get some new suits this year, this might have to be my “sporty suit”.

5. And this would be my “cute suit”  Elle top and skirt available at Khols.com.

Love it…shows off shoulders and arms, covers butt and thighs… fabulous!  Fun cut, but not too teeny-bopper…

Love IT!

As you may have noticed, none of the above suits came from my favorite modest clothing retailers, the last 4 will!  This makes me pleasantly surprised that maybe mainstream retailers are catching on that there is a market for cute, modest clothes(now if only they would trickle that down to juniors and girls sizes… seriously).

4.Bora Bora suit from Shade in Plum with the Charcoal Surf skirt as a cover up.

The benefit for the FCW of the Bora Bora top is the shirring over the bust, gotta love me some shirring!(shade’s suits are on sale right now…)

3. Lime Ricki Claire Top and Cinch skirt… cute, very very cute… totally working for the FCW…

lime-ricki-topbromw-lime-ricki

Lower the cinch ties, and you get more coverage… fabulous!

2. Lucy Suit from LimeRicki-

LOVE THIS SUIT, seriously, what more could you ask for, fun, cute coverage…

Love it!

And my Number One suit for FCW’s is…

The Gaby from Rey Swimwear

Gotta love me a swimdress.   How cute?  How classy?

Love it!

There you have it, some fabulous and fun suits for the FCW’s among us (me included….)

So, Elaine, I defy you to NOT find a swimsuit that will cover and flatter! ( Be sure to check the shipping policies and return policies).

  1. These are great suits. My favs are #6 and #2. Almost makes me wish I had an excuse to buy another suit!

  2. Great post! Thanks for sharing- it was helpful and encouraging. ;-)

  3. Ha! The training bra section!! YES!! I’m not alone!! Thank you Jena for this post, I need a decent new swimsuit that doesn’t make me look like I’m 12 years old.

  4. OMGoodness….I LOVE that last suit from Rey Swimwear…these are adorable! So glad you were brave enough to tackle the modest swimwear issue…I’ve been dancing around it myself but haven’t gotten brave enough to endure the potential “what I call modest isn’t what you call modest” controversy yet, lol. You did a great job and I love all of the suits you featured. Mind if I link to this post on TFF? Happy Summer! :)

  5. I thought for sure I commented on this as soon as you put it up! I remember typing a comment!!! Kids must have distracted me. Anyway, I really, really love that halter tankini from Athleta, but I know it wouldn’t work for me. I have come *this* close to ordering the Bora Bora from Shade, but I can’t figure out if it counts as final clearance or not, and they won’t accept returns on final clearance if it doesn’t work out. I wound up ordering one from JC Penny that looks really cute online, board shorts and tank top, but the tank top is a smidge too short, and is made out of material straight from hell, apparently. So back it will go today. I really, really love the Pop Art board short (I love the pattern!) but I don’t know if the top would work for me or not. I may give that one a try. Thanks for this post! I had fun reading it, and I’ve scoured the online stores you pulled these suits from, so I do have more ideas now. Sorry I apparently didn’t post a comment immediately. I really thought I had!

  6. I actually have the exact opposite problem as you, so if any of you have this problem, check out DiviineModestee.com and click swimsuits!

  7. These are some great suits you found! I especially like the V-neck ones and the bandeau tops at the end. V-necks, ruffles, and polka dots do lots to add oomph for us girls that would like a little more fullness in the bust! Here’s some of our favorites: http://tinyurl.com/pzn7vk

  8. just ordered the lucy suit…too cute…we’ll see how these “milkers”….(literally) fit into it!!
