Tips and Tricks Thursday- Baby Doll Dresses/Tunics

One of my FAVORITE items of clothing is a tunic shirt/ babydoll dress.  As a mom of 3 kids 5 and under, I am constantly on the go.  I love that my back area(you know, the area that can so easily turn into a nasty combo of muffin top/plumber crack) stays far hidden from view when I wear my tunic tops.  I seriously have 5-6 in my closet.

I also love them because I can pair them with a 3/4 length shirts underneath in the winter, and a cami in the summer, so you can get tons more wear out of them than just one season.

I am also pretty tall, so I often like to treat a short dress like a tunic and throw it on over jeans or capris, for another cute/modest/slightly funky look.

I would pair this “dress” with a white Wonder tee from Down East Basicss09s_wonderwhite_studio

and a pair of denim capris and flip flops(with my hair pulled back in a pony tail and a pair of big hoop earrings, for tiny bit of funk).

And I love this top from Old Navy;

Pair it with my second white girls tank top size XL

that I bought at Target today(’cause I love the first one I bought and I wear it so much that I KNOW I am going to wear it out before the summer is over) .

The other thing I LOVE about Tunics/baby doll dresses is that they work well for when you feel totally frumpy, but still want to try to be cute.

Some things to keep in mind when going with this style:

  • Proportion- make sure your tunic/dress is not too long for your pant… a rule of thumb is the shorter the pant, the shorter the tunic/dress.  If you are tallerish, this style works really well for you.
  • The other thing is to avoid the “pregnant look”, unless of course you are pregnant, by choosing baby doll dresses that drape nicely or have limited pleats.
  • This is not the style for you if you have a short torso and/or are apple shaped.
